If you were in Second Life and touched a pretty gold ring that magically appeared in front of you, the folks at Linden Labs would like to have a word with you. Seems a massive worm brought the metaverse crashing down on its axis, and those pretty gold rings were actually the agent of destruction.
Slashdot was on it. But Reuters — the wire service that generated great media hoopla by opening a bureau in SL — seems to have dropped the ball on the story. Now I’m not gonna tell them how to do their job, but if it were my newspaper, intrepid correspondent Adam Reuters would find himself working a new beat toute de suite.
UPDATE: As of Tuesday morning, the Metaverse was alive and well.
